Flatbasset Radio: Episode #131 (American Album Hall Of Fame - Class Of 2018)

While I'm alive I'll feel alive...

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #131!

Folks, last Sunday we celebrated some of the finest work coming from our brothers & sisters in the Great White North. Now, I may be a few days late, however, it was just America's birthday which means it's time for my favorite episode of the year. That's right, it's time to induct six new albums into the Flatbasset Radio American Album Hall Of Fame.

Before we get to this year's inductees, let me bombard you with some links to the previous induction ceremonies:

Class Of 2015 (Part I)
Class Of 2015 (Part II)

Class Of 2016 (Part I)
Class Of 2016 (Part II)

Class Of 2017 (Part I)
Class Of 2017 (Part II)

Note - The links above are for the previous blog post and the Archive.org MP3's. For reasons that have yet to be sufficiently explained to me Mixcloud takes down each episode of this show. I'd be angry, but it's a free site. You get what you pay for.

Before we get to the albums, though, here's a quick reminder of the FRAAHOF's criteria:

01. An album must be at least 10 years old to be inducted into the FRAAHOF

02. Only 6 albums per year may be inducted

03. Only 2 of those 6 albums may have been released over 30 years ago

04. No artist can appear in consecutive years

So, with those criteria in mind, here's a look at this year's inductees:

This year's class is a curious one in that it contains a couple of first-ballot Hall Of Famers, a couple that may only be FRAAHOF-worthy to me, and a couple undeniable pillars of American alternative rock. Unlike previous years, we're upping the song count to four per album plus plenty of me rabblin' on trying (and failing) to adequately explain my reasoning behind their enshrinement. It's a good time.

So, now that you know, here's what the Flatbasset Radio American Album Hall Of Fame looks like as of today:

Pretty sexy. This stupid concept is really taking shape.

Alright, let's get to this year's show.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #108

Think I'll take to the sidewalk...

Well hello there, everybody. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #108.

Folks, I hope all is well in your world. I've been away for a minute and for that I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again*.

That said, I've got one hell of a show lined up for you this week. I've got some great new local music, a pile of anniversaries, a couple of soundtracks of note, a disbanding local group, the germs of one of the great American alternative rock bands, sliced up fingers, concert memories, again, unfortunately, too many "in memoriams," the Cover Of The Week, and a predictable but nonetheless fantastic Flatbasset Flatclassic.

*All Flatbasset Radio promises are subject to change. Promises not valid in North America, Central America, South America, most of Europe, and any remaining countries/territories/principalities.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #107 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #18

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY)

My family knows I only iron once a year...

Hello again, free music fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #18!

For those of you who are unaware of the Flatbasset Radio format, here's what you're looking at: TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie. As you've probably noticed in his Songs Of The Week column, he's not always the most positive music fan. In an effort to prove that he is, in fact, a fan of music, we give him an hour each week to play the songs he's digging and talk a little bit about them. Once he's recorded his podcast we put it right here on the website for free to stream!

In this week's edition Droogsy gets sweaty, explains why Liam Gallagher is a "Capital 'R,' Capital 'S'" Rock Star, puts an alt-rock icon on blast, admits that an appliance is his best friend, celebrates an album's twenty-year anniversary by struggling with the concept of time, plays Tom Gilbert's theme song, implores us all to embrace the big, stupid, cornball single and much, much more !

Here's how Episode #18 plays out:

01. Beady Eye - Flick Of The Finger
02. Run The Jewels - Sea Legs
03. Edison - My Modesty, Your Venn Diagram
04. Open Mike Eagle (w/Busdriver) - Degrassi Picture Day (Hellfyre Jackets)
05. Pixies - Bagboy
06. Loudman - Ghana
07. Sage Francis - Zero (Update)
08. Down By Law - Air Conditioner
09. Bad Religion - American Jesus
10. Dessa - Icing Burns
11. Treetop Flyers - Things Will Change
12. Sugar Ray - Someday

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #8 (Christmas Spectacular!)

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY)

If God came down on Christmas day, I know exactly what he'd say...

Well hello again, music fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio – Episode #8 (Christmas Spectacular!)

For those who are new to the podcast, here's the story. TCDroogsma is one of our regular contributors. Specifically, he can be found being unnecessarily harsh in our Songs Of The Week column. So, each week we ask him to play us some songs that he actually likes.

Click the player below to listen to TCDroogsma's podcast.

This week TCDroogsma brings us a round of Christmas cheer! In between playing Christmas songs he debates the serving size of egg nog, tries to justify playing Zooey Deschanel & Tom Waits, lets us Americans in on a Boxing Day secret, invites listeners to debate nature of the fabric of his pants, and gives a big thanks to all our readers!

Here's how this week's episode breaks down (Click the title to download the show):

01. Glam Chops - Countdown To Christmas
02. Mos Def - May-December
03. She & Him - The Christmas Waltz
04. The Vandals - Oi! To The World
05. No Use For A Name - Fairytale Of New York
06. Destiny's Child - 8 Days Of Christmas

There you have it everybody! Happy Holidays from the Newest Industry family to yours!

If you somehow want even more TCDroogsma he can be found on Twitter (@TCDroogsma). He can also be found rambling over on his personal blog Flatbasset. No truth to the rumor that he spends his free time casing Whoville.

Newest Industry has a home on Twitter as well (@NewestIndustry1). Give us a follow to stay up on the work being done by our contributors. As TCDroogsma mentions in the podcast, we have a Facebook page here. Trivial as it seems, stopping by and giving us a “like” goes a long way to supporting the blog. It's all we want for Christmas.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #4 (Thanksgiving Special!)

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY.)

"Fruits, veggies, rice, beans, fryin' the tofu..."

Well hello again, free music fans!

Our old friend TCDroogsma is back with his Flatbasset podcast.  This week TCDroogsma puts together a whole episode with a Thanksgiving theme!  Or at least, he tries to, and that's really the best we can hope for the young man.

Click on the embedded player below to listen to the podcastYou'll get to hear TCDroogsma struggle to find a common thread between Jeff Tweedy, Kanye West, John Lennon, & Milo Aukerman.  You'll also get to hear reason #530 why Minnesota is better than everything.  He also calls out the Ying Yang Twins & Kendrick Lamar, places football above family, and lusts over the way things were back in 1996.  Good times all around.

Of course you can click the below to download the podcast so you'll have something to listen to while making the long drive to your parents' house for the holiday.
