Flatbasset Radio: Episode #135

Songs mean a lot...

Well hello again, everybody. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #135!

It's time to start making up for lost, um, time on this week's show. Since I took pretty much the last 10 months of from the show it means we've got all kinds of ground to cover. Anniversaries, new local music, upcoming shows, the Cover Of The Week, the the Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and, of course, the Flatbasset Flatclassic all return in semi-triumphant form this week.

No agenda, no banter, no algorithms, just 12 songs over 44 minutes to help close out your week.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #135 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Here's how Ep. #135 plays out:

01. The Persian Leaps - Time Slips

02. Murs - The Science

03. Zoo Animal - Naive Enough

04. Yoni Wolf - As I Went Out One Morning

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #82 (Aesop Rock MegaMix)

Get bit by the hound...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to an extra special episode of Flatbasset Radio.

If you've been following along with the podcast over the years (and really, why wouldn't you), you know that I'm a huge fan of Aesop Rock. In this crazy internet world where we're able to build our own culture around our own taste, Aes looms as the greatest rapper whoever rapped. To try to drive that point home I've been playing him on the podcast pretty consistently since the beginning of the podcast. Hell, I even named his Labor Days album to the inaugural Flatbasset Radio American Album Hall Of Fame class.

Why do I bring this up? Because Aesop Rock is out on tour in support of The Impossible Kid and that tour's pulling into your favorite danceteria & mine, First Ave., tomorrow night. That's right, kids, Aesop, Rob Sonic, Homeboy Sandman, DJ Zone, & Dem Atlas all under one roof for the low, low price of $20.

To celebrate the show I decided to dedicate this week's episode of Flatbasset Radio entirely to Aesop Rock.

Well.... not entirely.

As you can see from the tracklist below this isn't merely a "Best Of..." collection. I did my best to try to include a lot of collaborations, some semi-lost tracks, & some maybe-lesser-known remixes. Hell, I even chopped up his excellent The Blob beat tape for some interludes. Obviously I'm a biased opinion, but I'm going to go ahead and say that this is easily the best thing that's ever been uploaded to the internet. Also, it's free. So, y'know, give it a listen.

I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #82 (Aesop Rock MegaMix) (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Here's how it plays out:

01. Aesop Rock - Leisureforce

02. RJD2 - Final Frontier (Remix) (w/Blueprint, Vast Aire, Murs, & Aesop Rock

03. Aesop Rock - Blob I

04. Evil Nine - Crooked (w/Aesop Rock)

05. Aesop Rock - Untouchable (AR Version)

06. Aesop Rock - Blob II

07. Aesop Rock - Zodiaccupuncture

08. Evidence - Late For The Sky (w/Slug & Aesop Rock)

09. El-P - Run The Numbers (w/Aesop Rock)

10. Aesop Rock - Cycles To Gehenna (Zavala Remix)

11. Hanni El Khatib - You Rascal You (Aesop Rock Remix)

12. Aesop Rock - Tomorrow Morning (Instrumental Version)

13. The Uncluded - Bub Jam

14. Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass (Edison Remix)

15. Aesop Rock - Lotta Years

16. Aesop Rock - Blob III

17. Aesop Rock - Babies With Guns

18. Felt - Give It Up

19. Aesop Rock - Blob IV

20. Aesop Rock - Coffee (w/John Darnielle)

21. Aesop Rock & Homeboy Sandman - So Strange Here

There you have it, everybody! See you at the show!

Newest Industry Presents - Flatbasset Radio: Episode #39 (w/MinneSarah

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY)

I need some time in the sun-shee-yine...

Hello, podcast fans!  Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #39!

For those of you who are unaware of the Flatbasset Radio format, here's what you're looking at: TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie. As you've probably noticed in his Songs Of The Week column, he's not always the most positive music fan. In an effort to prove that he is, in fact, a fan of music, we give him an hour each week to play the songs he's digging and talk a little bit about them. Once he's recorded his podcast we put it right here on the website for free to stream and/or download!

For the second straight week TCDroogsma ventured to St. Paul to share co-hosting duties with MinneSarah.  Along the way they discuss the new Twin Cities "It Boy," the origin of Madison, Wisconsin, the career of Las Vegas' greatest band, their "radio personas," the power of rock n roll duos, songs to soundtrack mowing the lawn, the sexiness of Norah Jones, lessons learned from "Family Guy," a great show that's coming up this weekend, why you probably shouldn't come to Flatbasset Radio for the latest in hip-hop, whether or not 1994 was the pinnacle of human evolution, how rock bands no longer aim for universal appeal, and whether or not Oasis was better than The Beatles!  All that plus your Cover Of The Week & Flatbasset Flatclassic!

You can download the podcast for free by clicking the episode's title or stream the episode by clicking on the Mixcloud player below.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #5

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY.)

This was my dream... playing a rockin' routine...

Well hello again, music fans!  TCDroogsma is back with Flatbasset Radio - Episode #5!

For those of you stopping by for the first time, TCDroogsma is one of our regular contributors.  He typically sticks to the twin indulgences of food and music.  Each week we have him put together a podcast of roughly an hour's worth of music broken up sporadically by his nasally banter.

As you can see, Tuesday night is now going to be the new home of the podcast.  We realize that this puts Flatbasset Radio up against Tuesdays With Lazerbeak and Tuesday Morning Quarterback.  We're hoping that you'll soon consider Flatbasset Radio in the same breath as those two internet institutions.  Call it the Tuesday Hat Trick.

Anyway, this week found TCDroogsma in a rather sour mood.  Fortunately he managed to talk himself back into a better place by leaning on loud guitars, hometown jams, asian women, Twin Cities ex-pats, yet another stroll back to the 90's, and a Minneapolis icon.  Click the embedded player to have a listen or click the title to download the podcast and take it on the go.

Flatbasset Radio - Episode #5

Here's how the podcast breaks down:

01. Deerhoof - Milk Man
02. Kudzu Wish - We've Got Big Hands
03. DJ Abilities - Kastdaddy 4 President
04. BNLX - 1929
05. The Hold Steady - Magazines
06. Yak Ballz - Gas Galaxy
07. Menahan Street Band - The Crossing
08. Superdrag - Sucked Out
09. Murs - Eazy-E

11. Depeche Mode - Waiting For The Night
12. Paul Westerberg - All That I Had

There you have it, everybody!  Give it a listen!  Download it!  Free music!  Tweet it!  Tell a friend!

For more of the kind of emo TCDroogsma he can be found on Twitter (@TCDroogsma).  He also maintains his own Flatbasset blog, though it mainly consists of the work he does here.  If you ever meet him in person don't let his beard throw you off, he's not a handsome man.
Of course Newest Industry also lives on Twitter (@NewestIndustry1).  Give that a follow to stay up on all the work being done by our contributors.  More importantly we also have a Facebook page. Stopping by and giving us a "like" is the best way to support this blog without any sort of financial obligation.  If we get to 50 likes we're going to make TCDroogsma shave his beard.
