Flatbasset Radio: Episode #112

Thanks for listening, thanks for understanding...

Well hello again, music fans. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #112!

It's the last show of 2017, everybody and I, for one, couldn't be happier. 2017 was a trash can fire. Will 2018 be better? I don't know. What am I, Kreskin? I hope so, but I'm a practical man, so I'm sure not counting on it.

The one thing I can say with some certainty: This is an outstanding episode of Flatbasset Radio!

(Second thing I can say with some certainty: I am not great at segues.)

Anyway, continuing a theme from last week's episode, I'm making up for some lost time with this one. Over the course of 2017 I slept/worked/moped my way through too many weeks without putting together a show and, as such, I missed a bunch of classic anniversaries. I'm rectifying that here on Ep. #112. A semi-forgotten hip-hop classic, an old demo by a fallen power-pop god , TWO 50th anniversary classics, my favorite post-makeout-stroll album of 1997, the most perfect power-pop song ever written, some weirdo 70's instrumental stuff, one of the great forgotten punk bands of the 90's... all of these things make an appearance on this week's show (as well as a new one from the Twin Cities' favorite ex-pats). All that plus the Cover Of The Week & the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #112 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #111

Show me a barrel and watch me scrape it...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #111

I know it's been a minute since the last episode, but I'm trying to finish the year strong. It's a long, holiday travel sort of weekend and I'm here to help you get through that car ride or plane ride or train ride.

You'll find that Flatbasset Radio: Episode #111 is just a bit different (perhaps, dare I say, better) than previous episodes. That's because, in the name of getting some songs in before 2017 passes, each of the sets on this week's show ends with a would-be Flatbasset Flatclassic. I had too many anniversaries pile up on me over the year due to my lack of consistency and I'm making up for lost time. Of course we'll still be dipping into some great new local music, some anniversaries, the Cover Of The Week, a trip in the Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and the actual Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #111 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Here's how Episode #111 plays out:

01. Another Heaven - Starfall

02. Mew - Carry Me To Safety (Live On Radio K)

03. Nik Void - Rocket USA

04. The Verve - Lucky Man

05. Astronomique - Mimic Forms

06. Bedhead - Unfinished

07. Morrissey - Trouble Loves Me

08. The Busy Signals - She's Got Soul

09. Sloan - I Am The Cancer/Left Of Centre

10. Roma Di Luna - Letter To A Young Poet

11. Gin Blossoms - Found Out About You

12. Bruce Springsteen - Brilliant Disguise

There you have it, folks. Enjoy!

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: November '17

Well hello everybody. Welcome to another edition of Album Collage Monthly!

Folks, I don't know about you, but my November was straight trash. I won't bore you with the details, but too much worky, not enough sleepy, not enough bloggy... It wasn't any fun. It was so bad, in fact, that it bled into December and pushed this post back a day. I'm sorry for that, but really, if you spent yesterday refreshing this blog waiting for the collage you have problems far worse than mine.

Anyway, as always, big thanks to everybody who checked out the lone show I posted this month. No matter how rough things are, I take sincere joy out of playing that Descendents song every Thanksgiving. It really does say the things I'd like to in a much better (and catchier) way than I can. Sincere thanks to all the bands who play the way they play and help push through the darker days.

Let's get to the thing.

(As always, one "play" equals one song. For example, the new Mozzer album has 12 songs on it, so each time I listen to it front to back it counts as twelve "plays." As usual, all stats come from my Last.FM page. Give it a follow if you really want to stay up on what's getting the most plays.)

Rabbit rabbit, everybody! Welcome to another installment of the always compelling Records I Listened To Between Jobs!

Yes, November is upon us. Yes, I'm a day late with this post. No, I don't regret falling asleep after work and missing my deadline. See, that's the beauty of self-imposed deadlines - they still fall behind "napping" on the list of important things to do.
