Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: November '17

Well hello everybody. Welcome to another edition of Album Collage Monthly!

Folks, I don't know about you, but my November was straight trash. I won't bore you with the details, but too much worky, not enough sleepy, not enough bloggy... It wasn't any fun. It was so bad, in fact, that it bled into December and pushed this post back a day. I'm sorry for that, but really, if you spent yesterday refreshing this blog waiting for the collage you have problems far worse than mine.

Anyway, as always, big thanks to everybody who checked out the lone show I posted this month. No matter how rough things are, I take sincere joy out of playing that Descendents song every Thanksgiving. It really does say the things I'd like to in a much better (and catchier) way than I can. Sincere thanks to all the bands who play the way they play and help push through the darker days.

Let's get to the thing.

(As always, one "play" equals one song. For example, the new Mozzer album has 12 songs on it, so each time I listen to it front to back it counts as twelve "plays." As usual, all stats come from my Last.FM page. Give it a follow if you really want to stay up on what's getting the most plays.)

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: August '16

Is it the first of the month already? Damn, this summer's gone by quickly.

How was your August? Did you have fun? I got rained on a lot, which was terrible, but I went to the State Fair yesterday, which was not terrible. It's amazing how falafel on a stick can change your whole outlook, isn't it?

Before we get to the album collage, a big thanks to everybody who checked out the show's this month. Yes, their were only two of them, but both of them were outstanding, so that's got to count for something. Of course the show is free and available to stream or download from anywhere at anytime by anybody. Think of it as one of those Spotify "Discover" playlists except it's curated by an actual human being whose neuroses cause him to put way more effort into his show's than any music-loving robot ever could.

Second, a big thanks to all the artists who were on the show who took the time to share the podcast. Those shares & retweets are literally the only way this show reaches a broader audience, so each one is deeply appreciated.

Lastly, my monthly reminder that, as much as I enjoy writing about music & putting together the show, I'd like it a lot more if I could do it for a living. If you or anybody you know is looking for somebody to write about music or host a low-to-medium quality podcast, pass the blog along. I don't ask for much, just a pile of money and the ability to spend all my waking hours living out my dream. I don't think that's asking for much.

Let's get to the collage. As always, remember that every song listened to counts as a "play." Seems obvious, right? So, for example, Rogue Valley's new album Radiate/Dissolve has 12 songs, meaning each time I listen to it all the way through it counts 12 "plays." As usual, all stats come from my Last.FM page. Give it a follow if you really want to stay up on what's getting the most plays around Planet New Basset.

So, here we go:

01. Descendents - Hypercaffium Spazzinate (136 plays)

02. Rogue Valley - Radiate/Dissolve (84 plays)

03. Posh Lost - Posh Lost (70 plays)

06. The Persian Leaps - Your City, Underwater (38 plays)

07. Squeeze - Singles 45's And Under (36 plays)

08. The Nadas - Listen Through The Static (35 plays)

09. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - Produce Vol. 1 (32 plays)

10. Paper Tiger - In Other Words: Part Two (32 plays)

11. Pet Milk - Philadelphia Punklife (28 plays)

12. Buck 65 - Situation (Demos) (28 plays)

13. Down By Law - Down By Law (26 plays)

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #84

Let the lights dim some...

Well hello again, podcast fans. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #84!

Folks, I'm sorry I wasn't able to record a show last week. I was very busy dogsitting. Those dogs, man. Did you know you have to feed them every day? Every fucking day! That must be the life.

Anyway, I'm back this week with a new show. Yessir, 13 new/old jams to help us all slog through another ungodly August. In this week's show I talk about summer in the city, disappointing reunion albums, one classic SoCal band paying homage to another classic SoCal band, MinneSarah's birthday request, "Black Springsteen," just what today's biggest pop stars have in common, the beautifully strange days of 1996, the coolest person of the last 30 years, nostalgia for label samplers, and much more. All this plus a healthy dose of local music, the Cover Of The Week, & the Flatbasset Flatclassic!

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #84 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #79

"It takes strength to be gentle & kind..."

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #79!

Folks, summer's officially upon us and, in tribute, I've got red-hot jams lined up for this week's episode. As per usual, sorry for the gap between episodes. I'm very lazy. Conversely, thanks to everybody who did check out Episode #78. My buddy Nick & I teamed up for that one and I think it turned out to be the best one we've ever teamed up for.

That, however, is the last episode. On this week's show I've got a jam from my favorite reunited punk band, a cut from an iconic soundtrack, a set for our brothers & sisters in England, a spotlight on Flatbasset Radio's Album Of The Week, some under-informed political talk, a check-in on some of our Twin Cities friends, a few anniversaries, a lot of sweating, even more swearing, and my absolute ultimate summer jam! All that plus the Cover Of The Week & one of the most classic Flatbasset Flatclassics ever!

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #79 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio's 50 Most Played Albums: February '15

Well hello again, everybody.  The cold and sadness of February is behind us and I think we all made it out unscathed.  At least I hope we did.  Maybe you didn't.  If you were on the fence about making it, perhaps it was because you thought to yourself, "Self, life's terrible.  It's cold outside, it's dark so early, my girlfriend left me on Valentine's Day, and my cat refuses to acknowledge me unless he's hungry.  However, I have to press through because I'm just hellbent on finding out what albums Droogsy's been listening to while he traverses the darkest days of winter."

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #50

What ya'll really waaaant? What ya'll really waaaant?

Well hello again, free music fans!  Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #50!

That's right, everybody, we've reached 50 episodes of this damn show.  Before I get into what actually happens on this show I want to say thanks to everybody for tuning in and making this a worthwhile endeavor for this long.  Yes, it's kind of a completely arbitrary thing since I would've done this show whether anybody was listening or not, but it would have been much less fulfilling if you good folks hadn't listened to it.  Thank you.

Both appropriately and unfortunately I'm flying solo on this episode.  No MinneSarah on this episode, so my crap-tacular microphone and I are bringing the show back to its roots: playing stone cold jams while ranting like a lunatic.  Good stuff.  In this episode I discuss just how difficult it is to fuck up Big Star songs, celebrate St. Paul's finest power-pop band, confess to my very limited vocabulary, play a mini-set of Thanksgiving jams, attempt to figure out why Beck keeps turning up on the podcast, praise the value of gravy as it relates to Thanksgiving dinner, rattle of a list of things I'm thankful for this year and, importantly, rattle of a second list of things I am not thankful for, take full advantage of the one and only benefit of MinneSarah taking the week off, decide it's completely normal to have a "soft rock phase" in your early 30's, and go full cornball while bringing a tradition back to the show. All that plus the Cover Of The Week & The Flatbasset Flatclassic!

As always, this episode is available to download or stream.  Just click the episode title below for a download link or click on the Mixcloud player below to stream.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #50

02. Mr Twin Sister - Blush
03. Run The Jewels - Early (w/Boots)

06. Beck - Nicotine & Gravy
07. William S. Burroughs - A Thanksgiving Prayer
08. Indians - I Am Haunted
09. Hall & Oates - Abandoned Luncheonette
10. Flowmack - DMX's Little Secret
11. American Scarecrows - Gods Of The West
12. Descendents - Thank You

Happy Thanksgiving!
