Flatbasset Radio: Episode #106

Oh, the pain in my legs...

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio's long-in-production Episode #106!

That's right, folks, I finally got my lazy ass back to work after taking nearly six weeks off from the podcast. I know what you're thinking, "Well, you must have been very busy. Between work and your commitment to self-improvement I can completely understand taking six weeks off."

Wrong! I took on no extra work and may actually be dumber than the last time I recorded a show.

Nonetheless, I've got a great show for you this week. We've got to catch up on some anniversaries, check out some outstanding new local music, look ahead to some concerts this week, look back at a major concert that passed, dig into some instrumentals, and, sadly, mourn to lost titans of their respective genres. All that plus the Cover Of The Week and the Flatbasset Flatclassic!

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #106 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #73 (Young Sandwich's Lost Winter Mix)

Playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a pack of 51...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #73!

As you can see from the title up above, Episode #73 is the latest installment of my frequent collaborator Nick's Young Sandwich mixes. This one, however, is somehow even more special than his usual mixes. You see, Nick actually gave me this mix last January and, through a combination of being both somehow busy & lazy, I didn't get around to assembling and posting it last winter. Well, here we are a year later and I've been saving this one up. Honestly, it's probably his best yet.

If you haven't checked out Nick's Young Sandwich Mixes before, I highly suggest you do so. He's dropped off 7 other mixes over the years and they're all gold (all of which are available on my Mixcloud page). Not only are they devoid of my nasally banter, but they're an intoxicating mix of hip-hop, jazz, folk, and enough left turns to satisfy our internet-damaged attention spans. This Lost Winter Mix is no exception. Give it a listen.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. Just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

01. Beastie Boys - Super Disco Breakin'

02. The Centurions - Bullwinkle Pt. II

03. RZA - My Lovin' Is Digi

05. Gorillaz - The Parish Of Space Dust

06. The Statler Brothers - Flowers On The Wall

07. Pharaoh Sanders - Country Mile

08. Tom Waits - Diamonds On My Windshield

09. Nine Inch Nails - Dead Souls

10. Ghostface Killah - Black Jesus

11. Ween - Push Th' Little Daisies

12. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Petite Fleur (Little Flower)

13. A Tribe Called Quest - Oh My God

14. Sonic Youth - Swimsuit Issue

15. Beck - Truckdrivin' Neighbors Downstairs (Yellow Sweat)

There you have it! Stay warm, everybody.

Newest Industry Presents: Flatbasset Radio - Episode #15

(THIS POST ORIGINALLY APPEARS ON THE TWIN CITIES BLOG NEWEST INDUSTRY)

My head's so big you can't sit behind me...

Well hello again, free music fans! Welcome to Episode #15 of Flatbasset Radio!

For those of you unfamiliar with the podcast, here's the story: TCDroogsma is a music junkie. So much so that just writing our Songs Of The Week column is not enough for him. So, in addition to reviewing songs each week, he records this podcast and we give it away as a free download or streaming right here on Newest Industry.

Episode #15 represents the triumphant return of the podcast after a month off. In this episode TCDroogsma calls for The Smiths to stay broken up, tries to explain why indie rappers are so quick to defend Lil' Wayne, stumps for his favorite spring album, gives The Strokes career advice, and deems one of the most over-the-top acts of the last decade “classic.”

Click that player above to stream the podcast or click the download button to have a copy for your very own. Always free, sometimes good.
