Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #95!

I'm back on my hosting grind again this week. I've got all kinds of jams on this one - local rock, anniversaries, upcoming shows, some indie rock lifers, classic hip-hop, local electro-pop, the Cover Of The Week, and, as always, the Flatbasset Flatclassic!

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #73!

As you can see from the title up above, Episode #73 is the latest installment of my frequent collaborator Nick's Young Sandwich mixes. This one, however, is somehow even more special than his usual mixes. You see, Nick actually gave me this mix last January and, through a combination of being both somehow busy & lazy, I didn't get around to assembling and posting it last winter. Well, here we are a year later and I've been saving this one up. Honestly, it's probably his best yet.

If you haven't checked out Nick's Young Sandwich Mixes before, I highly suggest you do so. He's dropped off 7 other mixes over the years and they're all gold (all of which are available on my Mixcloud page). Not only are they devoid of my nasally banter, but they're an intoxicating mix of hip-hop, jazz, folk, and enough left turns to satisfy our internet-damaged attention spans. As he always does when the seasons change, my buddy Nick (aka Young Sandwich) stopped by to drop off an hour long seasonally-appropriate mix and this year's no exception. As you can see from the track list below, this Autumn Mix sticks to Nick's format of covering as many bases as possible in an hour. There's East Coast rap, impovisational jazz, 90's grunge, iconic folkies, 60's British rock, ska-punk, old-timey guitar theatrics, British hip-hop, 90's refugees, and one epic prog-rock jam. Somehow he makes all this work. What a beauty.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #49 (Young Sandwich's Autumn Mix Pt. 2)

Well hello again, podcast fans!  Welcome to a special edition of Flatbasset Radio!

For those of you who are longtime listeners of the show, most of what I'm about to say will be redundant.  Sorry.  Thanks for being longtime listeners. For those of you who are new to the show, here's what you're looking at this week.

I have a buddy named Nick (aka Young Sandwich).  Now, Nick and I don't always agree on music or sports or food or alcohol or... well... lots of things.  Regardless, he's my dude and he's always trying to turn me on to new music.  Now, most of the time that "new" music consists of old music made by dead or nearly dead people (I see you, Neil Young).

Over the past year Nick's passed on a couple of USB drives worth of music that he thought I should check out.  Of course, being in my early 30's, I have trouble doing anything without sharing it on the internet.  I figured hell, since I have a radio show, I may as well explore these songs with a little help from my friends.  Back in July Nick passed along his first USB full of songs, which I listened to, evaluated, and sequenced into a show that became Flatbasset Radio: Episode #41 (Young Sandwich's USB Mix).  To date it stands as the most popular show Flatbasset Radio's ever produced.

Emboldened by the success of his first mix, Nick loaded up a second USB with songs he thought I should check out.  There was just one problem: the first USB had just enough songs to put together a show.  This second USB had a whopping 56 songs! 56! That's a lot of songs to sort through (especially when I was unfamiliar with nearly all the artists).

To make things a little easier on myself, I split the songs into bite size chunks.  Five songs per week, each receiving two spins.  Math being math, I reached the halfway point about six weeks after receiving the USB.  Again, being completely unable to just enjoy something myself, I decided to go through those first 28 songs, trim them down to an hour worth of music, and assemble them into a show.  Voila!  Flatbasset Radio: Episode #45 (Young Sandiwich's Autumn Mix Pt. 1), a particularly gonzo mix of songs that nobody (myself included) ever expected to hear on the show.

As you probably gathered by the title of that episode, there was an Autumn Mix Pt. 2 coming. Well, today's the day.  Again, I've spent five weeks going through the remaining songs, chopped them down into about an hour of music, assembled them into a show, and present them here for your enjoyment.

Young Sandwich's Autumn Mix Pt. 2 is, again, a pretty gonzo affair.  It's worth noting that, according to the man himself, the songs that make up the second half of that USB were picked as he eased into beers number 5 & 6.  It's a crazy mixture of East Coast rap, Venezuelan funk, old Grand Royal records, dead jazzbos, English hard rock, Southern rap, spaced out indie doo-wop, and a heartbreaking turn from Tom Waits.  It's a fantastic show if I do say so myself.  Good work, Young Sandwich.

Newest Industry Presents - Flatbasset Radio: Episode #37

For those of you who are unaware of the Flatbasset Radio format, here's what you're looking at: TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie. As you've probably noticed in his Songs Of The Week column, he's not always the most positive music fan. In an effort to prove that he is, in fact, a fan of music, we give him an hour each week to play the songs he's digging and talk a little bit about them. Once he's recorded his podcast we put it right here on the website for free to stream and/or download!

This week's episode finds TCDroogsma throwing together an episode for the Memorial Day weekend.  He decided to steal an idea from his nemesis The Current and play three song blocks from three of his favorite artists.  Along the way he confesses that he's not working too hard on this one, tries to get a sponsorship from "whoever makes falafel chips," celebrates an icon's birthday, discusses just what's going to be written on his tombstone, triples down on the podcast's second-ever request, goes on "a" Weezer rant, but not all of his Weezer rants, puts on for his old minivan, shouts out his parents, and celebrates the 20th anniversary of "The Blue Album" by explaining how a Weezer track laid the blueprint for the rest of his life.
