Flatbasset Radio: Episode #117

Perhaps it isn't what you wanted or even what you're looking for...

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #117!

That's right, folks, it's a rare Monday afternoon episode of the show. I had planned on getting the show done on Friday, but I was unfortunately waylaid by a cold, a hockey game, and work. These things happen. Someday they'll pay me to do these shows and then I won't have any more excuses.

If you're a fan of the show you likely know what you're getting into with Episode #117. I've got jams on jams on banter on more jams. Along the way I discuss overrated albums of the 90's, underrated albums of the 90's, trying to do my part to support indie labels, French guitar instrumentals, the resurfacing of the old "Minneapolis Sound," one of my favorite Twin Cities producers, my latest Glaswegian obsession, and plenty more. Of course I also have the Cover Of The Week, a dive into Nate's Archives, a trip in the Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #117 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #76

"Tell your mother, tell your father, send a telegram..."

Well hello again, podcast fans. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #76!

Folks, it's a gorgeous day outside, so I'd like to take moment to thank you for passing up enjoying the outdoors to spend some time sitting at a computer listening to me rabble on about music.

In this week's episode I pay tribute to one of hip-hop's most underrated builders, get a head start on some of North Carolina's finest pop-punk, reprimand Radiohead for their "tour," drop an 18:00+ Minnesota music hat trick, take a quick trip across the border to Wisconsin for some guitar-based redemption, check in on those incorrigible upstarts over at Pytch Records, revisit an underrated record from the 2000's "Rock Revival," and go back 50 (!) years to celebrate one of the most important American pop albums of all time. All that plus the Cover Of The Week, Flatbasset Flatclassic, and more banter than anybody could ever want.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #76 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio's 50 Most Played Albums: March '15

Well hello there, everybody.  Long time no see, eh?

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Who's stupid page is this and how did I get here?"  Well, you tell me, smart guy, it's your browser.

You may also be thinking, "Hey, isn't the post below this a recap of February's albums?  Did Droogsy really take a whole month off?"

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes, but...

You see, March is what I like to call my "busy season."  I hold down two jobs and March is when one of those jobs gets so busy that, not only do I not have time to write the blog/record shows, I don't have time to eat properly, sleep enough, see my friends, or even shave.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #53 (Best Of 2014 - Radio K Song Of The Day)

It's happiness or bust...

Well hello again, podcast fans!  Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #53!

I'm a little late with this post, but it's still January, so it's still countdown season.

As you can probably tell from the title, I'm spending this week's show much like I spent last week's show: counting down free songs.  This time around I'm counting down the Top 10 songs given away by Radio K via their Song Of The Day podcast.

Along the way I discuss the differences between The Current's SOTD podcast & Radio K's, how to pronounce the word "Atlanta," how nostalgia can affect the way new music sounds, admit every 90's kid's lifetime devotion to The Rentals, mispronounce the word "Marcus" as "Allan" (sorry, Marcus), celebrate several of the best band's in the Twin Cities, and wrap it all up with a Flatbasset Flatclassic that doubles as my favorite local song of 2014!

As always, this episode is available to download or stream.  Just click the episode title below for a download link or click on the Mixcloud player below to stream.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #53 (Best Of 2014 - Radio K Song Of The Day)

10. GOLD-BEARS - Yeah, Tonight
09. Armand Margjeka - Hummingbird
08. Floating Action - No Surprise There
07. Museum Mouth - Strange
06. Fishing - Chi Glow (w/Marcus Whale)
05. The Rentals - 1000 Seasons
04. Hollow Boys - Melted
03. Astronomique - Pretend We're Stars
02. Half Japanese - In Its Pull
01. Some Pulp - Oh Oh (Who's Cryin' Now)

Enjoy!
