Well hello again, podcast fans!  Welcome to a very special episode of Flatbasset Radio!

Folks, it's a big day here in beautiful Minneapolis. Rhymesayers Entertainment, pillar of the local music community and the national hip-hop world, is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a big ass show down at the Target Center.  It's a celebration, bitches!

As a tribute to all the hard work the label's done over the years, I decided to put together a show celebrating some of my absolute favorites RSE artists. It was a tough show to do, many great songs were left off, but that's a testament to the job they've done over the years.  RSE keeps their quality control on point.

So, in this week's show I talk a lot about the importance of the label for all kinds of reasons.  Rhymesayers isn't just about the music.  In addition to playing the jams I discuss the importance of Rhymesayers as a part of the community, an example of the spirit of independence that runs throughout the midwest, and a testament to the fact that hard work & a belief in the goal can go a long way. Even if you're not a hip-hop fan, it's indisputable that the label's success has provided a blueprint for independent businesses throughout the Twin Cities. It's provided a beacon in a city that prides itself on an independent streak that was burning before RSE existed and will continue to burn after it's gone. Rhymesayers Entertainment is both an institution itself an inextricable link in the chain of the Twin Cities history.

For those of you who are unaware of the Flatbasset Radio format, here's what you're looking at: TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie. As you've probably noticed in his Songs Of The Week column, he's not always the most positive music fan. In an effort to prove that he is, in fact, a fan of music, we give him an hour each week to play the songs he's digging and talk a little bit about them. Once he's recorded his podcast we put it right here on the website for free to stream!

Well hello again, free music fans!  Welcome to the 16th edition of Flatbasset Radio!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Flatbasset Radio here's the story:  TCDroogsma is our resident MP3 junkie.  As you may have noticed from his Songs Of The Week column, he's old and he's grouchy.  So, to prove to us that he does actually like music, we invite him to share his weekly podcast with us.  He play some songs, says some things, songs, things, etc... and he ends it all with his Flatbasset Flat Classic Song Of The Week!

This week's edition is a special edition indeed.  TCDroogsma decided to celebrate Minnesota's 155th birthday by rambling on for two solid hours of Minnesota music!  Along the way he drinks a little too much beer, explains which app he won't use (hint: it rhymes with 'Wine'), explains what Twin Cities band is like a drug, shares the soundtrack to his life as a silent film, puts The Current on blast, gets confused as to whether or not there's a Minnesota Music Hall Of Fame, tells people who are unfamiliar with Prince where to go, implies that more bands should emulate Steely Dan, confuses a 15 year old version of himself, ruins all the sexiness of two of the Twin Cities sexiest artists, and declares Dave Pirner one of life's winners!

All that, plus the constant celebration of Minnesota's birthday!  It's all gay weddings and spaceship football stadiums from here on out people!

Well hello, music fans, and welcome to the inaugural episode of Flatbasset Radio!

For those of you unfamiliar with Flatbasset, it's the work of our regular contributor TCDroogsma.  For years now he's been posting mixes of songs online each month under the name Flatbasset.  Evidently he's decided to change things up a little bit.

Flatbasset Radio - Episode #1

In this episode TCDroogsma claims the British government is hoarding rappers, explains the best Halloween he ever had, recaps the "Get Out The Vote" show at First Avenue, steals an idea from Sound Opinions, and laments Morrissey's ill mother.

Still, we're all new to this so, TCDroogsma, what gives?

Boy, that's a concise question.  Basically, I've been making those Flatbasset mixes for a few years now and I've found that they are not very successful.  I decided to change it up a little bit by turning the mixes into a podcast where I break up the songs by talking a little bit.

That was your plan?  To break up a bunch of great songs with your rabbling?

Well, when you frame it that way it doesn't make much sense.  More accurately, it wasn't quite fair just labeling it a "mix" as that implied that it was some chopped up party starter, which it obviously wasn't.

Plus, I realized that people weren't really reading the bits I wrote about each song.  Since people hate reading I thought they might rather listen to me explain why the songs are great.

So you don't think people like to read and yet you spend nearly all of your free time blogging?

(Sigh...)
