Flatbasset Radio: Episode #107

What makes those eyes of yours look into mine?

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #107!

That's right, everybody, I'm trying my best to stay on my "weekly show" routine. This is a rare Monday show, but I'm counting it anyway.

As always I've got a great batch of songs lined up on this week's show. There are some great shows coming up this week, I'm still making up for some missed anniversaries, my favorite active band, a mid-show jazz break, a not-insignificant amount of great new local music, the Cover Of The Week, my vote for Spoon's best album, some Canadian pop, some American hip-hop, and yet another heartbreaking Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #107 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: July '17

Well hello again, everybody. Welcome to another installment of Album Collage Monthly!

We're into the dog days of summer now, folks. I spent a good part of July either watching fireworks or sitting in the air conditioning listening to music. It was a solid month.

As always, huge thanks to everybody who stopped by and listened to the show this month. July always has a couple of my favorite shows so I certainly hoped you enjoyed listening to them as much as I enjoyed putting them together.

Alright, let's get to the thing.

(As always, one "play" equals one song. For example, that new Cheap Fantasy album has 5 songs on it, so each time I listen to it front to back it counts as five "plays." Flatbasset Radio: Episode #105

I could own her, that crazy loner...

Well hello again, everybody, and welcome back to your regularly scheduled program.

Before we get going here, big thanks to everybody who checked out the last couple of themed episodes. I love doing both the Canada Day show and the American Album Hall Of Fame show, so thank you for indulging me on those.

This week, however, it's back to work. Episode #105 is a show packed with jams. Some local bands, some national bands, a couple of throwbacks, some upcoming shows, some anniversaries, the Cover Of The Week and, of course, the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

Along the way we discuss the best place to meet middle-aged losers, listening to Prince without devolving into reverie, some reunited punk rockers, a knight and his all-American backing band, nostalgia strewn across St. Paul, art and its curious relationship with expectations, Ryan Adams catalogue, some damn fine music journalism, and one of the great Minnesota songs not written by a Minnesota artist.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #105 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: January '16

Well hello again, everybody. Welcome back to the least consequential column on the internet!

Is it just me or did January fly by?  At this rate it's going to be 2017 before I even start remembering to stop writing 2015 on things. Does this happen to everybody as they get old or was it just this month?

Anyway, another month's passed, which means it's time for a little bit of instant nostalgia. As always, a huge, huge thanks to everybody who checked out the show this month, retweeted the show, or gave it a Facebook "Like." Flatbasset Radio: Episode #67

We talkin' 'bout practice...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #67!

Folks, everything's terrible. It's been a tough week for people everywhere around the world and, if you're anything like me, you're exhausted. In that spirit, let's all take an hour long break from the real world and listen to some jams.

In this week's episode I try to press through the sadness while sitting in the dark discussing spelling in hip-hop, getting lost in electronics, loud local legends, semi-ironic covers, underrated Australian bands, my difficulties with the French language, Pete Doherty's quality control issues, good shoegaze vs. bad shoegaze, 90's cult figures, un-Google-able bands, & how best to use a time machine.  All that plus some anniversaries, some love for our brothers & sisters in Paris, the Cover Of The Week, & the Flatbasset Flatclassic!

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. Just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

01. icollide - Lips That Won't Stretch, Tear
02. Astronautalis - SIKE!
03. Devata Daun - Fascinate
04. The Vines - Ms. Jackson
05. Brilliant Beast - Like Dreaming
06. Kanye West - Say You Will (w/Caroline Shaw)
07. Babyshambles -A'Rebours
08. Ruth Ruth - Amnesia
09. Felix Da Housecat - Do We Move Your World?
10. Juliana Hatfield - Shining On
11. Morrissey - I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris

Cheer up, kids. It'll get better.
