Flatbasset Radio: Episode #97

I'll say what this means to me, I'll do what I can...

Well hello again, everybody. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #97!

That's right, folks! Four weeks in a row! I think that may be the first time that's happened in the history of this, ahem... weekly podcast. Good times.

This week's show is filled with all the things you've come to know & love about the Flatbasset Radio podcast. I've got some new local stuff, some old local stuff, some classic pop, some beats, some hip-hop, some anniversaries, the Cover Of The Week, and a particularly heartbreaking Flatbasset Flatclassic.

Along the way I review a big-time show at the Xcel Center, highlight some upcoming shows around town, explain how to game the Green Line system, lose all of my credibility for the third straight week, struggle to remember concerts from a decade ago, celebrate some 35 year old Australian low-fi dub (yeah, really...), struggle with pronunciation, rehash my story of the best show I've ever seen, and do my best to memorialize yet another 90's icon gone too soon.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #97 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.

02. Now, Now - SGL

03. Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow

04. Justin Townes Earle - Can't Hardly Wait

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #96

Reached the bottom and now we're just looking forward...

Well hello again, podcast fans. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #96.

Folks, it's a gorgeous Friday here in Minneaolis, so I appreciate the fact that you've neglected your family, friends, & community to stay inside and listen to me mumble through another show.

This marks three straight Fridays with a new show which, for a purportedly "weekly" show shouldn't be much of an accomplishment, but if you've been following along you know just how rare it is that I get my shit together for three straight weeks.

This week's show if full of jams. Local music, indie rock, hip-hop collectives, classic punk, some anniversaries, some power-pop, some big, dumb, rock music, the Cover Of The Week, & the Flatbasset Flatclassic. Along the way we discuss why I should probably avoid talking politics on the show, prog or not-prog, indie rock in a post-Vampire-Weekend world, shoegaze of the Far East, the worst substitute for Conference Final hockey, some upcoming concerts, the low point of one of America's great pop-punk bands, and the greatest song in the history of mankind. Good stuff, for sure.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #96 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #95

They'll even print my recipe for pasta with pesto...

Well hello again, podcast fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #95!

I'm back on my hosting grind again this week. I've got all kinds of jams on this one - local rock, anniversaries, upcoming shows, some indie rock lifers, classic hip-hop, local electro-pop, the Cover Of The Week, and, as always, the Flatbasset Flatclassic!

Along the way I work in some discussion about the state of Planet New Basset (hint: not great), the state of the unions (hint: not much better), the career trajectory of Arctic Monkeys, finding hope in 80's punk, confused spelling, shows for charity, shows for your enjoyment, international Jawbreaker Day, the story of how Johnny Marr joined Modest Mouse, putting faith in Millenials, the beauty of the horn coda, and a heavy discussion about this week's Flatclassic.

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums - April '17

Well, hello again everybody. Welcome to another edition of Album Collage Monthly!

That's right, folks, it's the first of May already and guess what? It fucking snowed today. I love you, Minnesota, but does it have to be like this? It's May! Come on!

Anyway, it's time for a little bit of instant nostalgia. Before I get to it though, just a quick thanks to everybody who checked out the last couple of shows. If you didn't notice, I got back behind the microphone for Ep. #94 and, while it probably did not improve the show for you, it felt great to add what little personality I have back to the show. Thanks for sticking with it.

Alright, let's get to it. I listened to a tremendous amount of music this month. Here are the 25 albums that got the most spins around Planet New Basset.

(As always, one "play" equals one song. For example, that new Chinchees album has 11 songs on it, so each time I listen to it front to back it counts as eleven "plays." As usual, all stats come from my Last.FM page. Give it a follow if you really want to stay up on what's getting the most plays.)

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #94

Let me rant & let me ramble...

Well hello everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #94!

April has nearly passed, so I figured I should get my lazy ass back to work. This week's episode features the... not "triumphant"... adequate return of my hosting duties. That's right, I'm back on the mic. That's not the only reason to tune into this week's show. Hell, I'm just hoping that's not an actual deterrent from you checking out the show. This week's show if full of some excellent jams.

I've got some new local jams, some old local jams, some "in memoriam's," old stuff from great bands, old stuff from not so great bands, lost gems, the Cover Of The Week, and, as always, the Flatbasset Flatclassic. I also discuss overheating in the studio,  the reason I got back behind the microphone, Ben Folds' obituary, the time Kings Of Leon went for it and failed, spacing your coffee out so you peak at the right time (I did not to do this well), the moment Bad Religion started pulling apart their sound, the new direction of Lunch Duchess, the unrelenting consistency of Poliça, & respecting Jay Bennett on his own terms. It's really quite the show.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #94 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

If you don't have the time or desire to download the show, just click the Mixcloud player below and you're good to go.
