Flatbasset Radio: Episode #129

I've had all that I can take today...

Well hello again, everybody. Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #129!

Folks, I know it's been a few weeks since put up a new show and believe me, you have my most sincere apologies for that. I wanted to do the show, but I've been doing nothing but working, sweating, and napping in this godforsaken heat bubble of a city that I just didn't get it done. My bad. I'm back, though, better than ever.

This week's show is front-to-back bangers. I've got plenty of new local music, some throwback local jams, a batch of anniversaries (funny how a few weeks off does that), a couple new West Coast obsessions, our continued exploration of the Disposable America catalog, our weekly deep dive into Nate's Archives, the Cover Of The Week, a trip in the Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and, of course, the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #129 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Here's how Ep. #129 plays out:

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #128

I love the romance of crime...

Well hello again, music fans! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #128!

Folks, it's a stormy Monday night here in Minneapolis, but that doesn't mean we're taking the night off. In fact, if you listen to the show, you'll notice that I recorded it on Saturday night, which means I've already taken several days off - but no more! It's time to get down to business. No agenda, no algorithms, just 12 songs over 57 minutes lovingly assembled by yours truly.

This week's show is 100% jams. I've got a nice slate of new local music, a bit of old local music, some 80's British pop, some 70's LA punk, some 90's alternative, a very meta song about songs, another gem from Community Radio Tapes, our continued exploration of the Disposable America catalog, yet another classic Mozzer B-side, a "high and lonesome" country ballad (waltz time alert!), and, sadly, another in memoriam for an artist lost too soon. All that plus the Cover Of The Week, deep dive into Nate's Archives, a trip in the Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and a quintessentially American Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #128 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Here's how Ep. #128 plays out:

01. Scrunchies - Eavesdropping

02. Okkervil River - The Industry

03. Scritti Politti - Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry For Loverboy)

04. Remember Me - Do You Still Hate Me?

05. The Dickies - Waterslide

06. Arpeggi - Songs Don't Help

07. Ghost Thrower - Illuminatus!

08. Polara - Source Of Light

09. Morrissey - Sister, I'm A Poet

10. Lucid VanGuard - I Don't Wanna Miss You Tonight

11. Sixo - Clearly Nothing/Eye Of The Needle (w/Grace Park)

12. Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson

Flatbasset Radio's 25 Most Played Albums: May '18

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to another compelling episode of Album Collage Monthly!

Folks, another month is in the books. May was a steamy one here in Minneapolis, but I don't have any complaints.

As always, huge thank you to everybody who checked out the show this month. I managed to crank out four episodes in May, making it one of the few months over the life of the show that I actually stayed on schedule. It feels good.

Another big thanks to anybody who took a time to share the show via social media or in real life. As the show brings in zero dollars I have no promotional budget or team or anything of that nature. It's strictly for the love of creating the show and sharing it with folks, so any time people pass it along is greatly appreciated.

All that being said, let's get to the thing.

As always, one "play" equals one song. For example, the new Billy Sunday album has 9 songs on it, so each time I listen to it front to back it counts as nine "plays." As usual, all stats come from my Last.FM page. Give it a follow if you really want to stay up on what's getting the most plays.

01. Extraterrestrials - Try Again (68 plays)

02. France Has The Bomb - ...But We Must Cultivate Our Garden (65 plays)

03. Dismantlists - Here At The End (65 plays)

04. Billy Sunday - Wooden Teeth (65 plays)

05. snaer. - doze (62 plays)

06. V/A - Midwest Mixtapes Vol. I (See You Never Records) (60 plays)

07. Bad Religion - No Substance (50 plays)

08. All - Mass Nerder (49 plays)

09. V/A - Unpop 160 (48 plays)

10. Snuff - Tweet Tweet My Lovely (43 plays)

11. Kidz In The Hall - The In Crowd (42 plays)

12. The Bilinda Butchers - Heaven (41 plays)

13. Bill Withers - +Justments (40 plays)

14. Rancid - Let The Dominoes Fall (39 plays)

15. Lawn - Blood On The Tracks (38 plays)

16. No Age - Nouns (38 plays)

17. Local H - Twelve Angry Months (38 plays)

18. Andy Shauf - The Bearer Of Bad News (35 plays)

19. Badly Drawn Boy - The Hour Of Bewilderbeast (35 plays)

20. The Beatles - Let It Be... Naked (33 plays)

21. GRAMMA - GRAMMA (32 plays)

22. Jeff Buckley - Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk (32 plays)

23. Sugar - File Under: Easy Listening (30 plays)

24. The Muffs - Blonder And Blonder (28 plays)

25. Double Grave - Empty Hands (28 plays)

There you have it, folks. Stay tuned for more shows in June.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #127

You know damn well where you'll go...

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #127!

That's right, it's a rare Tuesday night show here at Planet New Basset. Something about the heat and holiday led to spending an inordinate amount of time lying in the air conditioning and napping, but you know I wouldn't leave you hanging for a whole week (at least not during the summer). No algorithms, no agenda, just 12 songs over 58 minutes lovingly assembled by yours truly.

On this week's show we complain about the heat, check in with one of the Twin Cities greatest bands of the 21st century, play the "what could have been game" on the anniversary of a rock icon's death, continue our exploration of the Disposable America catalog, wonder about the "American Bowie," listen to a new beat from one of our favorite local producers, discuss the various phases of the greatest American punk band, and celebrate one of the great Midwestern bands of my lifetime. All that plus the Cover Of The Week, our deep dive into Nate's Archives, a trip in the Minnesota Way-Back Machines, and, as always, the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #127 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.

Flatbasset Radio: Episode #126

There's God in the arc when the ball leaves the park...

Well hello again, everybody! Welcome to Flatbasset Radio: Episode #126!

Folks, it's a second consecutive Monday episode. I'm not completely certain how it happened since Monday is pretty much the worst possible day to release a show like mine... and yet, here we are. Somehow I'm getting worse at this as the years go by.

If the glass if half full, though, it's a new episode! Lots of great stuff on this one. We check in on the latest release from Forged Artifacts (the finest cassette label in Minneapolis), embrace a little clarinet, continue our exploration of the Disposable America catalog, listen to one of the greatest American indie rock bands cover another of the greatest American indie rock bands, enjoy a mid-show instrumental break, check in on the man behind my favorite Twin Cities band of the last 10 years, revisit some 3rd wave ska, bask in Mason Jennings blanket-like voice, and find the saddest point where man meets machine to stare down death. All that plus the Cover Of The Week, a deep dive into Nate's Archives, the trip in The Minnesota Way-Back Machine, and the Flatbasset Flatclassic.

As always, Flatbasset Radio is completely free. I've finally set up a decent downloading site, so if you'd like to download Flatbasset Radio: Episode #126 (with all the appropriate iTunes tagging), just click here.
